Heal the Bay wanted us at DDB LA to spread the word about the downsides of the single-use plastic bag. They also gave us a few parameters:

1. Target women 30+

2. Do it for absolutely no money.



CITYVILLE has more than 7 million active users, a majority of them are women 30+. We aimed to show users the impact of plastic bags in their virtual cities, and the result of banning them.

After banning the bag in their city, Cityville users receive a Happiness Boost from their citizens, as well as coins, symbolizing the money saved in trash cleanup after passing the ban. Afterward they are given more information and taken to a petition website where they can help in real life.
